~ Board Certified & Loving It ~

I am a practicing massage therapist with over 30 years of experience. I love to research information and write about it. I have written two best-selling textbooks — Massage Therapy: Principles and Practice and Mosby’s Guide to Pathology for Massage Therapists. I have also contributed works to other publications including: Teaching Massage, Modalities for Massage and Bodywork, Muscle and Bone Palpation Manual, and Anatomy for Massage and Manual Therapies.

I love to teach. I teach regularly at Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy and travel the country conducting workshops for practicing therapists. I also post instructional videos on YouTube. My primary teaching goals are to help therapists increase their quality of client care and expand their therapeutic treatment options. Students gave me the nickname “Yoda of Massage” because of my broad knowledge and teaching expertise. But it's more than that... I strive to create an educational environment of discovery and engagement.

I love learning and frequently find myself in classrooms as a student. I have an Associate degree in History, Bachelors in Education, and Masters in Educational Leadership. I plan to start a Doctorate in the fall of 2014. I am also an expert witness in legal cases that in involve massage therapy.

I love collaborating with other therapists. Being on the task force for the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge was one of my peak experiences. Achieving Board Certification with the National Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork was another. I was featured as a massage historian with David Lauterstein and Benny Vaughn in the documentary, History of Massage Therapy in the United States. That was a blast!

I am a charter member of the Louisiana AMTA. In 1989, they honored me with Member of the Year and in 2003 with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

I served on the advisory board for the American Pregnancy Massage Association. I am a current member of the Society for Oncology Massage and the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education.

In 1990, I married my childhood friend, Michael Breaux. We have five children - Jason, Chelsea, Christopher, Connor, and Camille. My stepchildren are Jessica, Jennifer, Justin, Juliet, and Jason. I love playing cards and chess with our children. I make killer deviled eggs and French silk pie.

Learn more about my work by visiting my website. A second website of mine, Massage Passport, features quality, online CE courses.
