If you are lucky in your career, you have the opportunity to work for a true visionary—someone who sees the future clearly and has the guts to do what it takes to make it happen. I have had the extraordinary privilege to work for Alexa Zaledonis, the outgoing chair of NCBTMB—for the past 14 months. Alexa’s tenure as Chair has been marked by constant change and a clearly marked path for the future. Under Alexa’s leadership:
- NCBTMB is launching the first new credential in the profession in many years.
- NCBTMB has gone totally paperless and is equipped for immediate response to any question or application.
- NCBTMB has totally revamped the evaluation process for massage education—from massage schools through continuing education.
Impressively, all of the above was done in Alexa’s style of complete inclusion—every direction was set based on listening to the profession. She always considered what was best for the future of the profession and how it would be received by others. And she always did it with the sensitivity of a therapist and her characteristically excellent humor. I am thrilled that she will remain on the board for 3 more years.
Effective January 1, 2013, we are pleased that Sue Toscano—a past NCBTMB Chair—will be returning in that role. As a therapist and a school representative, Sue’s perspective on the board has been unique and essential. As Chair-Elect for the past two years, Sue has been intimately involved in all planning and implementation, serving all of us well as we continue to elevate the standards of the profession. Sue and Alexa have been totally synchronized in their goals for the organization. We look forward to Sue’s tenure with great anticipation. With Sue at the helm, Alexa still on board, and a host of dedicated Directors, the NCBTMB’s renewal is destined to succeed.
We’ve turned it around, this organization. Value will return to the certification credential. True quality will be the meaning of our logo. And great people are at NCB to help you. Starting here, starting now. And all we can say are these three words:
Thank you, Alexa.
