Board Certification: An Interview with Ryan Hoyme, Massage Nerd

"Education is the great engine for development." ~ Nelson Mandela

In the continued effort to communicate and inform our constituents, through education and in the pursuit of a dream of collaboration, it is a pleasure to share this interview conducted by Ryan Hoyme, Massage Nerd.

Board Certification is a well-established and recognized concept and career path in various health care professions; however in our profession, such a career path is not available. I have become aware that this new credential which represents a higher level of experience and education and is "a great engine for further development," raises questions, such as… Who is eligible? At what time in the recertification cycle? With what requirements?

It is our continued hope that this outreach will help address some of the commonly asked questions. Communication is a two way process… and so I invite you to present your queries to NCB. This ongoing dialogue is necessary in order for advanced certification to find it’s rightful place, and as a cornerstone of our educational and professional development.

Hope you all are having a great day! I am Thomas Hay and I became a massage therapist in 2010. My certification expires this year in Nov. and I want to be re-certified. I know I have to do my ceu's and I was wondering what is the best way to get my ceu's in time?
After that how do I show my ceu's and get re-certified?
I have not had a lot of opportunity to get my ceu's done in the last couple years and now I will have to really push to get them done. What will be the cost of re-certification if there is any?
Thank You and Be Well,

Thomas Hay
