How to recertify
The recertification process provides certificants the opportunity to build on their existing skills and knowledge through hands-on experience and continuing education. It also enables them to reaffirm their commitment to NCBTMB’s Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
When to recertify
NCBTMB certificants must recertify every four years. To verify when you need to recertify, check the expiration date on your NCBTMB certificate.
Although it is your responsibility to apply for recertification, NCBTMB will notify you by mail one year, and again three months, prior to the expiration date of your certificate. It is also your responsibility to notify NCBTMB in writing if there is a change in your mailing information.
Continuing education and hands-on experience
Certificants are required to submit 48 continuing education hours and documentation for 200 hours of hands-on work experience completed during the four-year certification cycle. Six hours of ethics must be taken from an NCBTMB Approved Provider, with two of the six hours on Standard V of NCBTMB’s Standards of Practice. (link to Standards of practice) If you earn more than the required number of continuing education hours, you may be able to transfer hours to your next four-year cycle. To become recertified, certificants must follow all policies and procedures in the Recertification Handbook, which also includes complete information, instructions and application forms.
